Photographers Paradise
Visit the area shortly for a day or enjoy it and photograph it properly with an extended stay for 2-3 days.
Experience outstanding nature in just one day. The peninsula has been called “Iceland in Miniature” as it displays sample of all the most magnificent landscapes found on our island plus the charming villages and friendly people. Volcano and glacier Snæfellsjökull, 1446 m, is regarded as one of the symbols of Iceland. It is the highest mountain on the peninsula and has a glacier at its peak (you didn´t know a glacier could also be a volcano? no wonder they call it land of ice and fire). The glacier can be seen on clear days from Reykjavík, in a distance of about 120 km, easily recognizable because of its two peaks. The glacier is also known as the setting of the novel Journey to the Center of the Earth by the French author Jules Verne.
The area surrounding glacier Snæfellsjökull is one of the four National Parks of Iceland. You will see stretches of lava fields, exceptional lava formations, amazing gorges and waterfalls, lovely towns and harbors.
We might even get lucky and see whales playing in the ocean from the beaches of Arnarstapi and Hellnar and birds are everywhere for those interested in some candid bird photos.
It is popular to extend Snæfellsnes peninsula Photo Tour to a Multi-Day tour for 2-3 days as the peninsula offers a wide range of sights and photo opportunities seem endless here. Not only the known landmarks but also the details you can find in the lava here are amazing.
Highly recommended:
Add a day and make this a 2-day tour, the peninsula has a lot to offer photographers and staying the night under the mount Kirkjufell and the glacier Snæfellsjökull is believed to have supernatural powers. Plus adding a stop at Hraunfossar & Barnafossar is a good idea as it´s only a “short” detour. Why not take it all the way and add the beautiful sea stack Hvítserkur to the equation? The area also has a lot of extra activities such as snow scooters on the glacier, great boat rides in the fjord and visits to the local islands such as Flatey, visit local shark meat producers and many other interesting sights. This is a very rich area which very often is misread by people passing by because some of it´s best juicy locations are a bit hidden from the main road but an absolute gem to those who give the time to properly explore.
